Georges Guynemer. Officer of the First World... - Lot 337 - Paris Enchères - Collin du Bocage
Georges Guynemer. Officer of the First World War. Nicknamed "the Ace of Aces" of the French Air Force. He was one of the most famous wartime pilots of the First World War.
Born in Paris in 1864, he was barely hired by the army at the age of 20, hesitating in the face of his fragile health. After training as a pilot and proving himself, he quickly joined the high ranks of the MS.3 "Cigognes" squadron, which he never left. He received the Legion of Honor at the age of 21. He won 53 certified victories during his career. In 1917, his last combat mission cost him his life.
The sculptor has represented this officer in full length, dressed in his ceremonial costume, on a square terrace. He is holding his kepi in his right hand and his staff and gloves in his left hand. His posture and demeanor are rather solemn, his gaze focused on the horizon.
Dated 1919 on the terrace and signed Henri Dubois.
Ernest Henri Dubois (1863-1930) was trained at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris in the workshops of Henri Chapu and Alexandre Falguière.
